Dark quencher molecules are now regarded as key components in the design of smart optical bioprobes, especially those that rely on Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), currently used in protease activity assays, nucleic acid hybridization, and real‐time polymerase chain reactions (PCRs). This conjugated polymer ProDot [ProDOT(OE)-DMP] reported by Reynolds group in Georgia Tech, proves useful in a variety of applications, exhibiting comparable electroactivity in aqueous and organic electrolyte systems, redox stability for thousands of cycles, an ION/OFF current ratio of 105 in accumulation-mode organic electrochemical transistors (OECT) devices, impressive electrochromic contrast (Δ%T > 70%), and capacitance values exceeding 80 F/g.
